We've stepped into our normal rhythm here in Chicago, and it's been great to see how God is working and stretching our students! This morning, we began our service projects; these projects looked a little different than we expected, and the students have responded really well and demonstrated flexibility and grace. This year, we have two teams working in community gardening and beautification projects and one team serving a local elementary school by helping with any tasks that the school needs as they wrap up the school year. After a day of serving, students had an opportunity to get a different look at Chicago by riding the "L" train, specifically with the mission to meet some of the people of Chicago and notice what is happening in the communities the train passes thru. We wrapped up our night with a teaching from the folks at Sunshine about poverty. Students learned more about the circumstances surrounding poverty, and that there are some causes that are simply out of an individual's control. Students are asking big questions, wrestling with tough issues and God is doing something powerful in our student's lives. All in all, a great Monday here in the Windy City!
